Last Saturday night at the Home Depot Center, Carson, California. Saw Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KO's) capped of a spectacular night of boxing with a 6th round TKO win over California native Josesito Lopez (30-6,18 KO's).

In a fight of the year candidate Maidana managed to land some hard right hands on Lopez, and when the onslaught continued the referee stepped in to award a technical-knockout win in the 6th round.

Lopez was boxing brilliantly, especially in the 4th and 5th rounds. As he managed to tag Maidana with straight right hands. Many times throughout the fight Lopez managed to hurt Maidana, but just doesn't have the raw power Maidana has to finish a fight.

That became evident in the 6th round when Maidana hit Lopez with a sweet body shot, which seemed to stun Lopez and take the air out his lungs. Maidana followed up with straight right pushing Lopez back before he took a knee. Beating the count, Maidana continued to hit Lopez with hard right hands, forcing the referee to stop the fight.

Lopez who is a true warrior complained about the stoppage, feeling it was premature. He was winning on 2 of the judges scorecards at the time if the stoppage.

Don't take nothing away from Maidana, he is pound-for-pound one of the hardest punchers in the game, and has possibly set himself up to fight the winner of Malignaggi-Broner fight.
